Objective

Enable a realistic and reliable system for harvesting rainwater and managing water resources in the villages of Adexor and Adexor-Kpodzi, Ghana.

Research and Planning (2004-2007)

Wade made three trips to Ghana, and with Christian Keteni (local project coordinator) traveled around the country meeting with various NGO's, agencies and water projects. Eric Chimsi became our central rainwater harvesting contact, and later came on board as Project Manager. Christian facilitated meetings in Adexor and Adexor-Kpodzi, sharing the research and developing a plan to meet the villages needs.

In Canada Nathaniel and Wade maintained contact with Eric and Christian, while developing a website, continuing research, and fundraising. This included the writing and touring of the play Well…, which brought together a network of people excited about the project.

Construction (2007-2009)

A team of local masons from the villages were trained and mentored in the construction process. Local residents participated in the manual labour and received training in water management as well as cleaning and maintenance of the rainwater harvesting systems.

  • Phase 1, Fall 2007: One tank constructed in each of the two villages, and two tanks constructed at the shared school.
  • Phase 2, Fall 2008: Five tanks constructed in the villages.
  • Phase 3, Fall 2010: Six tanks constructed in the villages.

Follow Up (2010-2011)

Wade returned to Ghana in 2010 to witness and celebrate the completion of construction. Eric and Christian continue to support the villages with training and maintenance.
