Objective

Enable a realistic and reliable system for harvesting rainwater and managing water resources in the villages of Adexor and Adexor-Kpodzi, Ghana.

Training and Education
  • A team of local masons is receiving ongoing training in the construction of rainwater harvesting systems.
  • All local residents are receiving training in water management as well as cleaning and maintenance of the rainwater harvesting systems.

Construction

Phase 1 – Fall 2007  ~  COMPLETE!

  • One 10,000L tank constructed in each of the two villages, and two 75,000L tanks constructed at the shared school.

Phase 2 – Fall 2008

  • Five 75,000L tanks constructed in the villages.

Phase 3 – Fall 2009

  • Six 75,000L tanks constructed in the villages.

With the completion of Phase 3 all residents of Adexor and Adexor-Kpodzi will have sustainable access to clean water for all of their drinking and food-related needs.  Stream water will continue to be collected for bathing and laundry.  Providing education and developing a strong water management system with the residents will ensure that the stored water can last throughout the dry season.

What Happens After Phase 3?

Wade will return to the Ghana to witness and celebrate the completion of Phase 3 with the people of Adexor.  A contingency fund will be left with the project manager for maintenance and follow-up as needed.  While in Ghana, Wade will also continue networking with existing NGO’s in the region in the hope of finding an organization to carry forward the model and training that theWATERproject.ca has established.
