For three months I lived in the village of Adexor (Ada-ho) in the Volta Region of Ghana. I witnessed the challenges villagers faced collecting their daily water supply from a polluted stream that is significantly diminished during the dry season. The residents of Adexor identified clean drinking water as their greatest need.
We started theWATERproject.ca upon my return to Canada and after seven years of consultation, research, fundraising, construction and education, a total of 15 rainwater harvesting tanks are in use. That's enough clean water for everyone in Adexor and the sister village of Adexor-Kpodzi! A team of residents is trained in the construction and maintenance of the tanks, and the community has embraced caring for their tanks.
The success of this project was made possible by the generosity of many people in Canada, and the hard work of many people in Ghana. I invite you to celebrate this accomplishment by watching the slideshow on our blog – raise a glass and give thanks for the gift of clean drinking water!
